Artist Journal Workshops

During this six-week Artist Journal Workshop, participants will produce material for a final hand-bound journal.   No writing or visual art experience is necessary.  All levels of experience are welcome.

Journaling is a process of attending closely and reflectively to thoughts and emotions.  In this course, not only will participants learn techniques for starting and maintaining a written journal, but will also learn various techniques that will support this process, including working with visual imagery and art making processes. This art journaling class will include various journaling prompts (both for writing and image making), as well as introductions to various methods and techniques for this kind of mixed-media journaling. The goals of this class are awareness practice, writing/image making, with attention to process, as opposed to product. This is not a scrap-booking, design or junk journaling class. There will be lots of writing and opportunities for meaningful, image making.

In an emotionally safe and supportive environment, participants will be invited to dig deep, as archeologists do, into their own personal landscape of dreams, memories, fears, hopes, thoughts and emotions. The process will yield certain treasures along the way.  You will discover new pathways into the dark, tangled undergrowth of your memories, as well as the hidden wellsprings of sweet-water bubbling up from your own lived experience.  You will leave the class with both the methods and the means for continuing to cultivate a sense of presence, praxis and improvisation through authentic art journaling.  Artist journaling feeds the soul, and it will enhance both your writing and art making practices in amazing ways!

And, the most beneficial aspect of this process is the sharing that takes place in an emotionally supportive environment.

The course meetings will take place on Skype, and there will be a Facebook Group page for communications between class sessions.
